Understand what online theory and practical academy learning each offer, and the questions to ask before choosing a training format.

Online learning can make study easier to fit around life. Practical academy attendance gives you a different opportunity: working through the skills on your course with tutor supervision and feedback. When comparing aesthetics courses, ask how these two parts fit together rather than deciding from the words “online” or “in person” alone.
What is online theory useful for?
Theory gives you time to read, revisit unfamiliar terms and prepare questions. On Moon’s Level 3 Access to Aesthetics course, the published learning topics include consultation, skin analysis, anatomy and physiology, health and safety, and electrical science. Preparing the theory helps you understand the reasons behind what you are learning in the academy.
Ask what materials are supplied, how you contact your tutor and whether there are deadlines or learning tasks to complete before attending. “Online” does not necessarily mean live classes, unlimited access or no assessments: check the arrangements for the specific course.
What should practical learning add?
Ask how the tutor demonstrates the skills, how learners practise, and how individual feedback and assessment work. Find out whether there are prerequisites before your practical days and what happens if further practice is needed. Watching a demonstration and being assessed performing a skill are different experiences.
Do not assume that every course covers the same treatments or that completing theory alone covers every practical requirement. Confirm the exact learning outcomes and assessment process before booking.
How does Moon combine the two?
Moon’s current Level 3 listing describes a planned 12-week programme combining online learning and academy practical training. Your practical arrangements are agreed with the team as you progress. Theory access is sent manually by the team within 24 hours of booking.
That is a description of this course, rather than a timetable for every Moon programme. Read the selected course page and ask the team to explain your expected study workload, attendance and assessment commitments.
Questions to compare course formats
- What must I complete before attending the academy?
- How do I receive feedback on theory and practical work?
- How are the required skills assessed?
- What device or materials do I need for home study?
- How are practical dates agreed, and what if I need more support?
