A calm, practical checklist for your first academy day: prepare your theory, confirm attendance details and make the most of tutor feedback.

Feeling excited and a little nervous before your first practical training day is understandable. A few simple checks can help you arrive ready to learn. Use this as a preparation guide, then follow the joining instructions for your particular Moon course.
Confirm your day with the academy
Check the date, start and finish times, location and arrival instructions with the team. Moon trains in Romford and Leigh-on-Sea, so make sure you have the details for your booked academy. Do not make travel bookings from an old date shown in a screenshot or a social post.
Ask about dress requirements, anything you need to bring, and whether identification or course paperwork is required. Confirm arrangements for learning materials, equipment and practical participation rather than buying a kit without checking.
Review the required theory
Your tutor can explain which learning tasks must be completed before attendance. Revisit the topics you found difficult and write down questions. Understanding the theory helps you take more from demonstrations and feedback during the practical stage.
If you cannot access your learning or are unsure whether you are ready to attend, contact the team before the day. Theory access is currently sent manually; do not assume an order confirmation is your learning login.
Bring a useful question list
- What will I practise and what will I be assessed on?
- How should I record my work and tutor feedback?
- Which parts should I revise before the next session?
- How can I ask for help after this day?
- What happens if I need more practice or another assessment?
A short list is easier to use than trying to remember every question while learning something new. If a demonstration is unclear, ask the tutor to explain before proceeding.
Make space for feedback
Practical learning is about developing the skills covered by your course, not proving you already know everything. Take notes where permitted, listen to the tutor’s instructions and use feedback to identify what to practise next. Ask permission before taking photographs or recording, and respect everyone’s privacy.
After your academy day
Set aside time to review your notes while the learning is fresh. Identify any required follow-up work, confirm the next deadline and ask how further practical dates or assessment arrangements will be communicated. Attendance alone does not necessarily mean all course requirements are complete.
